Arena Theater
The Arena Theater is one of the oldest theaters in Bratislava. It was built in 1828 on the banks of the Danube, near a historic public park and originally served as a summer theater - an uncovered amphitheater - hence its name. The Arena Theater is one of the most distinctive multicultural venues in Slovakia, where audiences can enjoy not only theater productions, but also musical concerts, live broadcasts from New York’s Metropolitan Opera, or masterpieces of Slovak and world cinema. Since 2002, the Arena Theater has been positioning itself as a contemporary art scene that emphasizes current themes in modern form through critical perspectives. One of the theater’s first major successes was the production of Edward Albee's play “The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?” directed by Martin Čičvák, which won two prestigious Dosky awards in 2004 - Juraj Kukura won Best Male Actor and Emília Vášáryová won Best Actress. Every year, the Arena Theater represents contemporary Slovak theater at national and international festivals.
